Why I am running
Who I Am, Laurie Wilhoit
I was raised in Brookfield, Illinois with my two sisters, by two dedicated elementary school teachers who instilled in me the values of education, hard work, and community service. Their passion for shaping young minds taught me the importance of investing in people and fostering an environment where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
That foundation has guided my career, leadership, and public service. For the past four years, I have served as an Ela Township Trustee, ensuring responsible governance, transparency, and fiscal accountability by asking the right questions and being thoroughly prepared for every meeting. Professionally, I own a boutique marketing and communications company and work for a valuation firm, helping businesses communicate their message while strengthening their communities. I spent 11 years working at the Lake Zurich Chamber of Commerce before serving on its board of directors, and I also led marketing efforts for historic downtown Long Grove, supporting local businesses and economic growth.
Beyond my corporate and government experience, I have been actively involved in Caring Women’s Connection, a 100% volunteer-run, 501(c)(3) non-profit that assists women and children in Lake County, IL. Giving back to the community is a core part of who I am, and I’ve seen firsthand how grassroots efforts can create real change.
My campaign is built on the same principles that have guided my career: professionalism, collaboration, and responsible leadership. I believe in open communication, fiscal accountability, and policies supporting residents and small businesses. With a strong background in public service, business, and non-profit leadership, I am committed to making thoughtful, transparent decisions that serve the best interests of our community.
